Wk 1. Globalisation flows
Before I begin writing, I’d like to show you this video first:

Globalisation is best described in my opinion by “the opening of local and nationalistic perspectives to a broader outlook of an interconnected and interdependent world”. “Things such as airplanes, cheap telephone service, email and computers… have made the world more interdependent than ever”. Our world is slowly forming as one as we are slowly getting a better understanding of each others cultures, beliefs, religions and lifestyles. One in particular is our favorite food we like to eat. Each country is famous for it’s own gourmet dishes. For example Italy is famous for it’s pizza and pasta. Too, McDonald’s has become a big favorite in most countries around the world. It is a delicious example of globalisation in action as its menu is basically the same in every country and it shares different meals from different countries. It is a cultural flow that is combining the world into one by introducing each countries food traditions into other countries. As we grow a likening to this particular countries food, we want, at times, to get a better understanding of it or incorporate it into our everyday life, so we research their culture and backgrounds with thanks to the internet and Google, information flows, again combining the world into one by including different cultures into our own.

Is forming the globe as one giant, same culture and tradition community
going to benefit this planet or be the doom of us?

Only globalisation and reading on in this will be able to answer that for you…

  1. HI Sam,
The video was awesome and it was a good way of generating a basic understanding of Globalisation and its effects on the world around us. I enjoyed reading you blog, as it provided a great general overview of Globalisation and some of the effects. I thought the focus on food was a great idea and you used examples everyone could relate too, as everyone does love pasta and pizza thanks to the Italians influence.
Just make sure you reference throughout your blog, not just have a final list of sources!
    Look forward to reading more!

  2. I enjoyed reading this one, although it did admittedly make me quite hungry, though it would have been helpful to have references within the body of the post. You seem to come out in favour of globalisation due to the food angle, though you really seem to gloss over the other aspects such as religion/lifestyles, which are important enough for you to have mentioned yet you don’t go into them. Would have been interesting to hear what you thought.

  3. Nice first post Sam! I did enjoy the video as it gave a relative elementary perspective on a topic that can be difficult to grasp. Using food as your example was clever, whilst I don’t think it’s the most important end of the scale when discussing globalization you did show how many different forms and genres globalization covers. Food is a very important part of culture and when I travel I do like indulge in as much local produce as I can. As with previous post it would be nice to have some references throughout you blog.
